2 Month Check-In: Athlytic is still the app for me...

I downloaded and paid for the Athlytic app in mid-October. I wrote about my first impressions in a previous post and thought it would be interesting to sit back and reflect on my experiences with the app after almost 2 months of use. Specifically, I will focus this post on 2 things: the integrated nature of 3 measurements and one feature.

The three measurements I would like to focus on are Recovery, Exertion, and Sleep. With respect to the app, Athlytic defines Recovery as the degree to which your body is ready to perform today. It defines Exertion as an indication of your cardiovascular load over the course of the day. Sleep is defined by the amount and quality. As I see it, these measurements are intertwined and play a role in what type and how much physical activity I engage in daily. Take today for example...

In the picture below, you will see my scores for Recovery-58%, Sleep-54%, and Exertion-currently at 2.9.

The three measurements I am using most are Recovery, Exertion, and Sleep.

If I drill down even more, as witnessed by the next picture, you will notice where I stand with regard to my Target Exertion Zone: 3.9-6.4.

Drill down and you get more data.

At this point in the day, I had already completed 2 short, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) sessions. I usually go to a boxing class on Tuesdays. Based on data from previous boxing classes, I know that I will stay within my Target Exertion Zone if I choose to participate, which I most certainly will. You may be wondering, what would have stopped me from making this decision to participate?

Based on what I know about my body, both a Sleep score of >50% and a Recovery score of >50% would have stopped me from committing to the boxing class later today. Had this been the case, I could have substituted the boxing class for something lighter, like a walk.

The last thing I would like to write about is the Notes feature. If you start and stop a workout in the Athlytic app, it provides the opportunity to include notes about the workout. You may be saying, "Big deal. What's so cool about that?" The Athlytic app works with Apple Intelligence to create what it calls "Workout Insights" and includes elements of the notes you provide. Here's an example...

Below you will find the note I included for one of my HIIT workouts this morning.

Note I added thanks to starting and stopping the workout in the Athlytic app.

Next you will see what Athlytic and Apple Intelligence did to provide me with "More Workout Insights."

Where Athlytic and Apple Intelligence meet.

An opportunity to dive deep into the data.

This is where I feel that there is great potential with apps like Athlytic and Apple Intelligence's on-device models. Apple already has all the information about me, and Athlytic has the means to provide that information in a way that allows users like me to make decisions that are in the best interests of our health and well-being.

Now off to that boxing class!!!
