Reflection on first Eldera Hangout with my mentee…
The first hang out with my mentee went really well. We shared interesting facts about the cities we live in, sports that we like, places we’ve visited, and our shared love of reading. We took turns sharing from books that we are currently reading separately and talked to each other about why each of us likes our book. My mentee told me that he’s tried many hobbies, stuck with them for a while then moved onto other interests. I told him that this was a sign that he is searching for things that he truly finds interesting. I told him that that’s a good trait to have and that he should keep searching and not settle for things just because it’s something to do. Before we ended our hang out I asked him what he’d like to do next time that we didn’t do this time. He looked at me and said, “Spend more time together talking.” This moment that my mentee and I shared would not have happened if it were not for Dana Griffin and the amazing people at Eldera. I am so incredibly happy but I am a part of this organization and I’m looking forward to my next hangout with my new friend, my mentee!
